08. Baar - Unterägeri - Raten

  • 43.5km
  • 946m

With a mix of forest roads, tarmac, and singletrack, this loop includes one of the underrated jewels of the Canton. It's especially for those after a gravel adventure and showcases the widely varied terrain of this area. This ride starts in Baar at Altgutsch on tarmac roads following the Lorza river and then mixes in some smooth gravel right after passing the Hollgritten Cave. Riding through Neuägeri before dropping in the forest and approaching Unterägeri from the South.

Follow the quiet backroads in Unterägeri and Oberrägeri before the climb starts within Oberrägeri towards Raten Pass. As soon as we reach the forest, the surface also changes to gravel. We approach the Raten Pass on the main road, then turn towards Gottschalkenberg on super fast gravel roads.

We reach the highest point of the ride at 1157m just below Gottschalkenberg. Bomb down in Girregwald before dropping back on the single track for some technical ride in the woods.

After coming through the woods, ride around Gübel and drink in the views across Canon Zug and the Freiamt before taking the road toward Menzingen.

Between Neuheuim and Menzingen, the route follows a narrow hiking path that requires some attention. The final section back to Baar weaves through stunning roads with patches of woodland.

This Route can be shortened to start and arrive in Unterägeri. Turning back from Gübel. Click here for the short version. https://www.strava.com/routes/3007518588469321466
